Spare parts and repair advice over the counter at 134 Bulcock Street, for owners, caretakers and building managers

Kings Beach adjoins the Caloundra town centre, which puts our Bulcock Street counter closer to it than to anywhere else we serve. That proximity is the whole point of this page: when something fails, you do not have to book a call-out and wait. You can put the part on the counter and walk out with the answer. Who does that here is worth naming — at the 2021 Census 92.2% of Kings Beach's occupied dwellings were flats or apartments, so the person carrying the part in is often a caretaker or a building manager rather than the owner of a back-yard pool.

We keep spares across the brands that dominate this end of Caloundra: chlorinator cells and power supplies, pump seals and impellers, motor capacitors, multiport valve spiders and gaskets, filter o-rings, light globes and gaskets, timers, and the unions and fittings that seize up near the water faster than they should.

The point of a counter, as opposed to a delivery slot, is that the diagnosis and the part happen in the same conversation. Bring the failed component and we can usually tell you whether it is the part, the thing it was attached to, or something upstream that will destroy the new one too.

Local knowledge

Why it matters here

The dwelling profile changes who walks in and what they need. With 92.2% of occupied dwellings being flats or apartments and only 5.8% separate houses, most pools here are common property. That has three consequences for a parts counter.

The first is authority. A caretaker can collect a seal or a cell without a committee resolution, where a full equipment replacement usually needs one. Being able to keep a building's pool running on a small part is often the difference between a working pool and a month of correspondence.

The second is documentation. A building's pool has to be seen to be maintained, not just maintained. We can give you the paperwork that goes with a part, which matters more when the person paying is a body corporate rather than a household.

The third is speed. With 45.7% of occupied dwellings rented and 33.9% of private dwellings unoccupied on Census night, a lot of these pools serve short-stay and part-time residents, and an out-of-service pool is noticed immediately by people who are only here for a week.

What owners come in for

Common local challenges

The challenge

A failed part on a pool that cannot wait

Why it happens

33.9% of Kings Beach private dwellings were unoccupied on Census night and 45.7% of occupied ones were rented — short-stay and part-time use, where a pool out of service is noticed the same day.

Why it matters

A call-out booked for next week is a week of complaints for a building manager.

How we help

Kings Beach adjoins the town centre where the shop is, so a part can usually be collected and fitted the same day rather than ordered in.

The challenge

The person holding the part cannot authorise a replacement

Why it happens

With 92.2% of occupied dwellings being flats or apartments, most pools here are common property and major spend needs a committee.

Why it matters

A pool sits out of action while a decision moves between caretaker, manager and committee.

How we help

Where a part will genuinely restore service, we will supply it and document what was replaced, so the small fix does not have to wait on the large decision.

The challenge

Buying the part without finding the cause

Why it happens

The failed component is visible; whatever destroyed it usually is not.

Why it matters

The new part fails the same way and the owner has paid twice.

How we help

A photo of the whole plant, plus what it did before it stopped, usually names the upstream cause. We would rather ask than sell the same part twice.

The challenge

Faults that are not a parts problem at all

Why it happens

Electrical faults, tripping breakers, underground leaks and heater faults all present at the plant but are not fixed at a counter.

Why it matters

Selling a part for one of these is at best useless and at worst unsafe.

How we help

We name them as call-outs. The service vans run from this building and cover Kings Beach, so it is one phone call rather than a referral elsewhere.

The challenge

A chlorinator where only half the unit is spent

Why it happens

Cells and power supplies age at different rates, and a cell can be finished while the supply is sound.

Why it matters

Replacing the pair when only the cell is done wastes money; replacing only the cell when the supply is also tired wastes the new cell.

How we help

We will price it both ways and say which we think it is.

What is on the shelves

Spare parts across brands

Chlorinator cells and power supplies, pump seals and impellers, capacitors, multiport spiders and gaskets, filter o-rings, light globes, timers, unions and fittings.

Stocked for the brands common at this end of Caloundra, including gear we did not sell. Most of the rest can be ordered in.

Find a part

Counter diagnosis

Bring the failed part, a photo of the data plate and a photo of the plant, and we will work out whether the part is the problem or a symptom.

Kings Beach adjoins the town centre, so this is a walk-in rather than an appointment.

Repairs and call-outs

Electrical faults, tripping breakers, suspected leaks and heater faults handled on site by the team working from this building.

The handover from counter to call-out is one phone call, not a referral somewhere else.

Body corporate and strata support

Parts, documentation and scheduled servicing for common-property pools.

With 92.2% of occupied dwellings here being flats or apartments, most of these pools belong to a building rather than a household.

Free water testing

A full profile with a printed dosing plan, at the same counter.

Useful documentation for a building's pool as well as a dosing plan for a private one.

Credentials and cover

Billabong Pool Service & Supply publishes ABN 63 010 047 239 and QBCC Licence No. 69021 in its own site footer. The shop is at 134 Bulcock Street, Caloundra QLD 4551 on 07 5438 1588, trading Monday to Friday 8:00am–4:30pm and Saturday 8:00am–12:00pm, with the service team working out of the same building. Anything on the electrical side needs a licensed tradesperson and we will not pretend otherwise. Billabong does **not** issue pool safety certificates and does not perform pool safety inspections — that is a licensed pool safety inspector's work.

Frequently asked questions

Do you stock parts for equipment I did not buy from you?

Yes. We carry spares across the common brands and can order most of the rest, usually within a few days. The model and serial from the data plate tell us more than the brand name does.

Can I fit it myself?

Plenty of parts, yes — o-rings, baskets, seals, cells, cartridges — and we will walk you through it. Anything on the electrical side needs a licensed tradesperson, and we will not pretend otherwise.

How fast can someone get out here if I do need a technician?

Kings Beach adjoins the town centre where the shop is, so it is one of the shorter runs the service vans do. Urgent faults — no circulation in mid-summer, a leak losing water fast — get prioritised.

Is it worth repairing an old chlorinator?

If the power supply is sound and only the cell is spent, usually yes. If both are tired, a matched replacement generally costs less over its life. We will price it both ways rather than assuming.

I look after a unit block. Can I buy parts without a committee decision?

That is between you and your committee, but a small part that restores service is a different order of spend from a replacement, and we can document exactly what was supplied and why. Most of the pools here are common property, so this is a normal conversation for us.

What should I bring so you can help first time?

The old part if you can remove it safely, a photo of the data plate, a photo of the whole plant, and what it did before it stopped. The symptom usually names the fault.

Next step

Something broken? Bring the part down to Bulcock Street, or send a photo of the data plate and the plant, and we will tell you what it needs — including when what it needs is a technician rather than a part. Call 07 5438 1588.
