Pool Cleaning in Meridan Plains

Sunshine Coast Region, QLD

Open blocks, bigger pools, more exposure

Meridan Plains sits between the coastal strip and the hinterland, on blocks that are noticeably larger than anything in the Aura estates.

Pools here tend to be bigger, more exposed, and further from the house. That combination brings its own set of problems, none of which are the ones we're solving at Kings Beach.

The first is wind. With few buildings to break it, the westerlies push dust, grass clippings and paddock debris across open yards and straight into the water. The second is distance — a pool at the back of a large block is out of sight, and out-of-sight pools are the ones that quietly go green. Consistent scheduled visits matter more here than in any suburb where you walk past the pool ten times a day.

Why it matters here

A Meridan Plains service visit

  • Heavy debris clearing — surface skim and floor vacuum sized to a larger pool that has caught a week of wind-blown material.
  • Filter and basket load — grass and fine dust load a filter differently to leaves; pressure is checked and media or cartridge cleaned on the schedule your pool actually needs.
  • Full chemistry — pH, chlorine, alkalinity, stabiliser, calcium hardness and salt, with dosing calculated for the real volume of a large pool rather than a standard assumption.
  • Top-up water testing — where you're filling from a tank or bore, we test the source, not just the pool.
  • Equipment inspection — pump, filter, valves, salt cell, timers, and the longer plumbing runs that larger properties tend to have.

Common local challenges

The challenge

Tank and bore water changes the maths

Why it happens

Plenty of properties out here top up from rainwater tanks or a bore, and neither behaves like town supply. Tank water is typically soft and low in calcium, which sounds harmless but will pull calcium out of a rendered or pebble interior over time. Bore water is the reverse problem: often hard, sometimes carrying iron or manganese that stains a pool brown or black within days of a big top-up. If you fill from either, tell us before the next top-up rather than after — pre-treating is straightforward, and stain removal is not.

Wildlife and open yards

Why it happens

Larger blocks near reserve land mean frogs, lizards and the occasional bird in the skimmer. Beyond the unpleasant discovery, it's an organic load that quietly consumes chlorine. A properly fitted skimmer lid, a working return jet and a covered pool over the quiet months reduce it considerably. We'll check for entry points as part of the visit.

How often

Why it happens

Weekly across the swimming season, and fortnightly through winter if the pool is covered and lightly used. Uncovered acreage pools should stay weekly year-round — the debris load doesn't drop enough in winter to justify stretching the interval, and a large pool costs considerably more to recover than to maintain.

Services on this run

Regular pool cleaning

Scheduled cleaning and water balancing, with debris removal and dosing sized to the real volume of the pool rather than a standard assumption.

A pool that has caught a week of wind-blown dust and grass needs a different clean from one under a tree. Filter pressure is checked every visit here.

Book a clean

Tank and bore top-up water testing

Testing of your source water, not just your pool, with pre-treatment where you fill from a bore.

Soft tank water pulls calcium out of a rendered or pebble interior. Bore water stains it. Both are cheap to prevent and expensive to fix.

Test my top-up water

Filter and equipment servicing

Filter pressure checks, media or cartridge cleaning, and inspection of pump, valves, salt cell, timers and the longer plumbing runs larger properties tend to have.

Fine dust and grass pack a filter faster than leaves do, so the cleaning interval here is set by pressure rather than by the calendar.

Book a service

Pool repairs

Diagnosis and repair of pumps, filters, chlorinators, valves and plumbing.

Long plumbing runs between house and pool are common on the larger blocks here, and they are a frequent and easily missed source of loss.

Pool covers and blankets

Covers and blankets to cut debris, evaporation and chemical use.

On an exposed block a cover does more work than it does in a sheltered yard — it is the difference between weekly and fortnightly servicing through winter.

Managed servicing for absent owners

A full-service arrangement with a report after each visit and a call only when something needs a decision.

This is the most common arrangement on the larger blocks here, where the pool is a long way from the house and out of anyone's daily route.

Frequently asked questions

Can I top the pool up from my tank?

Usually yes, but soft tank water is low in calcium and will slowly draw it from the pool's interior surface. We test after a significant top-up and correct hardness so the finish isn't the thing that pays for it.

The water went brown after we filled from the bore. What happened?

Almost certainly iron in the bore water oxidising once it hits chlorinated pool water. It's treatable with a sequestering agent and proper filtration, and preventable next time by pre-treating during the fill.

Do you travel out to acreage properties?

We do — Meridan Plains is on a regular route from our Caloundra base, which is why we can hold a consistent day rather than fitting you in.

Our pool is a long way from the house and we barely look at it. Can you just manage the whole thing?

That's the most common arrangement we have here. You get a report after each visit and a call if something needs a decision. Otherwise you don't have to think about it.
